The aim of this module is an understanding of and skills in applying explorative design as a cognitive and validation tool in the design of technical systems. The focus is on various forms of "sketching" such as paper prototyping, Wizard-of-Oz-ing, referencing, appropriation and similar design strategies. In particular, problems of validation and generalizability of findings from such processes becomes tangible and reflectable, and the concept of "design as research" will be discussed.
The work in this module will be based on several sequential projects. As part of this project work, the methods will be developed and applied in group work.The quality will be guaranteed by a only admitting a manageable number of participants.
Typography and color; various ways of sketching; design and prototyping of technical systems;
the summer 2019 edition of »exploratives design« combines part 1 + 2 into a single, high-effort course. you will spend 12*25 = 300 hours in this courrse, which boils down to approx 20 hours per week. please do not participate if you cannot invest enough time!
