Aim of course

Introduction into the psychology of perception and the design of usable visualisations

Subject of course

This lecture will give an introduction into human perception and the design of usable visualisations. The psychologiy of perception can provide necessary theoretical and empirical results to inform the design of visualisations. Theories of perception will be discussed and guidelines for design will be presented. In the lecture, practical applications will be discussed that clarify the application of results of psychological research in the area of visualisation. The lecture will focus on the visualisation of abstract data.
