Aim of course

Comprehension of the social areas of conflict in informatics; Ability to see diverse perceptions of problems and accordingly to ask and answer questions from different perspectives; Fundamental knowledge of the security of information systems, cryptography, license and patent law.

Subject of course

Self-conception, history and voices of computer science as technology and academic discipline. Globalization and networking: history and structure of the internet, monopolizing, digital divide and countercultures of the ICT industry. history, visions and reality of the information society, changes induced in the "knowledge order". Violability of the information society: the conflict "security vs. liberty", monitoring technologies in social context, attacks on privacy and legal, organizational and technical preventive measures, applications of cryptography. Copyright and intellectual property: problem areas, organizations and arguments concerning copyright and patent practice, free and open source software, creative commons.
