Aim of course

This course will provide an overview of additive manufacturing technologies, digital geometry representations, optimization methods, physically-based simulation techniques, and forward and inverse models for computer-aided design.

This course will partially take place at TU Wien and IST Austria. IST Austria provides a shuttle bus for anybody traveling from Vienna-Heiligenstadt to the campus. More information can be found here.

Subject of course

  • Overview 3D printing techniques, available materials, material modeling, current printer pipeline, shortcomings. Visiting IST machine shop, first experiments with printers.
  • Geometry processing and geometry modelling in the context of 3D printing.
  • Geometry and shape optimization for digital fabrication.
  • From 3D-scanning to a printable model.
  • Basics of FEM.
