Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to:

  • Understand the physical principles behind color and visual perception of the human eye.
  • To perceive color more consciously and to be aware of subjective differences in visual perception.
  • To grasp the connections between human visual perception and technology, as well as to identify technological limitations in the digital representation of color.
  • To critically review and analyze current research topics in the field of visual perception and color, and identify future research topics and formulate open research questions.

 

Subject of course

The course consists of a theoretical lecture and a discussion of current research topics.

The lecture will present the following topics:

  • What is color - physical basics
  • Visual perception of humans
  • Visual acuity, contrast vision, color vision deficiencies
  • Simulations of and assistive technology for vision impairments
  • Color spectra
  • Colorimetry
  • Color spaces and transformations
  • Visual perception in virtual and augmented reality

Critical discussion and analysis of current research

The lecture will be given online in the winter semester 2021/22.

The lecture is given in English with English slides.
