2021W, UE, 2.0h, 3.0EC

Properties

  • Semester hours: 2.0
  • Credits: 3.0
  • Type: UE Exercise
  • Format: Online

Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to...

  • Visualize fractals with high performance
  • Develop tools for visual analysis based on fractal geometry
  • Generate fractal shapes for computer graphics
  • Transfer the knowledge acquired in the lecture to concrete applications
  • Work independently on a problem solution

Subject of course

Theoretical concepts of fractal geometry are applied by programming assignments. The assignments encompass the following areas of fractal geometry:

  • Iterated Function Systems (IFS)
  • Julia-Sets and the Mandelbrot-Set
  • Stochastic Fractals
  • L-Systems
  • Dynamic Systems

Teaching methods

Exact definition of the requirement of given examples in the lab description.

Demonstration of particularly successful lab examples from recent years.

Independent programming of examples.

Support of students on demand.

Mode of examination

Immanent

Additional information

ECTS breakdown (estimation, recommendation):

25 hrs. learning algorithms

50 hrs. solve programming assignments

--------------------------------------------------

75 hrs. equals to 3 ECTS each of 25 hrs.

Examination modalities

Assessment of submitted implementations from given examples according to the overall score achieved. It is also possible to implement a fractal algorithm based on own ideas after agreement with the lecturer. Teamwork is allowed if the effort of the proposed application justifies it.
