After successful completion of the course, students are able

• to solve sample calculations (number systems, memory hierarchy, networks)
• to analyze small assembly programs
• to understand digital circuits
• to decode commands in a simple Datapath
• understand pipelining examples

The following topics are covered:

• Computer architecture
• Representation of numbers in computers
• Boolean algebra and digital electronics
• Addressing modes, instruction sets and pipelining
• Memory hierarchy design
• Input, output and peripheral devices
• Computer networks
• System software

Used methodes:

• Recorded lectures (via LectureTube)
• Exercise sheets (have to be solved at home)
• Presentation and discussion of the exercise sheets in exercise groups

Workload estimation (ECTS breakdown): 75 hours = 3 ECTS

• Preperation of homework (24 hours)
• Post processing of lectures and preperation of exams (15 hours)
