Focal points for the summer semester 2024: discussions on the topics of "AI in the classroom" and "Home automation as a didactic model"
The preliminary meeting is conducted via Zoom. The further procedure, including scheduling, will be agreed.
Provisional schedule / summary and proposal:
- Theory part: Wed, 13,3, all other Thurs: 21.3, 11.4, 18.4, 25.4, 2.5, 16.5, 23.5 (reserve date)
- Practical part: 6, 7 and 8 June Depending on the number of participants, it still needs to be clarified whether two days are sufficient for the presentations or whether all three are required.
- On 3 and 4 April (Easter holidays) the EDU|days 2024 will take place at the University of Krems. The visit is free of charge and provides interesting suggestions.
I intend to hold the theory part partly as a face-to-face event and partly as distance learning. In any case, the presentations will be held in person.
The reservation of lecture halls in SS 2024 is determined by several factors. The number of participants will only be clear after the preliminary meeting and the dates may still change if there are too many clashes with other courses. As I have my own seminar room in the 19th district near Linnéplatz, I can offer this room for the face-to-face events. This makes it much easier to choose the dates. Please consider whether you are happy to attend face-to-face events in the 19th district by the date of the preliminary meeting.
Further details on the procedure and registration - especially on group formation - will be provided at the preliminary meeting. The presentations are group work, ideally in groups of 3 people.
In the last few semesters, we have agreed to always hold all theory courses on the same day of the week. If this arrangement is also desired in the summer semester 2024, my proposal is 8 dates (plus reserve date), each on Thursday, 17:00 to 19:30 (see above). Other weekdays or times can be arranged at the preliminary meeting. Apart from Tuesday and Wednesday, any working day is possible.
The documents for the LVA will be made available via TUWEL.
In recent semesters, the use of Telegram has also proven its worth, especially for enquiries, discussions and information that needs to be made available quickly. => Registration link . Registration is now possible. Please use a user ID that recognises a connection to your name.
Basic didactic and pedagogical knowledge is desirable, but at least an interest in these topics. Historical and theoretical background information will also be provided. The seminar is aimed at anyone who wants to or has to give presentations on computer science topics, not just current or future teachers.
The presentations will be held in blocks. Suggestions for the presentations: 6 to 8 June 2024.
Guideline for the duration of the presentation: 25 minutes per group member.
Effort estimation:
15 h Attendance at the face-to-face and distance learning sessions of the preparation phase
35 h Preparation of the seminar paper
20 h Presentation; attendance or participation in other presentations
5 h follow-up (documentation)
------------------------------
75 h = 3 ECTS

The seminar requires a willingness to discuss the main topics of the semester as well as general methodological and didactic topics. The assessment will focus on the practical part, i.e. the presentation of the chosen topic by the group. If necessary, short written or electronic tests can also be included in the assessment. During the presentations, all non-presenting participants take on the role of the target group defined by the presentation group. The assessment of the presentations includes:
- Description of the target group and the (fictitious) prior knowledge of the target group
- Describing the expected learning outcomes following the presentation
- Creative selection and use of suitable media
- Carrying out the presentation
- Collaboration within the group
- Monitoring success after the presentation
- Submission of a summarising paper
