The goal of this seminar is to discuss and learn foundational techniques required in scientific work in the area of distributed systems with a focus on Cloud Computing, Internet of Things, Fog and Edge Computing, Advanced Networking Technologies, Blockchains, Cyber-physical Systems, Machine Learning, and Big Data; in particular, literature search, presentation of scientific results, presentation techniques. Therefore, active participation is highly encouraged.
Students have to give their preference for the topics. After the students receive their final topics, they will have one discussion with the assigned supervisor. In the process, through the writing of a scientific paper, and the presentation of the outcome, they will acquire fundamental competencies in academic research.

ECTS Breakdown - 3 ECTS (75 h):
- 1 h first meeting and topic discussion
- 20 h literature survey
- 4 h preparation for meeting with the supervisor to get feedback
- 20 h literature survey after feedback
- 20 h writing of the seminar paper
- 3 h preparation of the final presentation
- 7 h end presentation attending and presenting / discussion in the group

NOTE: This course has relatively rigid constraints in terms of the number of participants due to the limited capacity of lecturers to propose topics. However, within the first four weeks, there is usually the possibility of some spots being free. We recommend that all the students on the waiting list interested in participating in the seminar wait for open positions.
