2018W, VU, 2.0h, 3.0EC, to be held in blocked form

Properties

  • Semester hours: 2.0
  • Credits: 3.0
  • Type: VU Lecture and Exercise

Aim of course

During this course, students will learn specific key aspects about processes, process management and workflow management. The emphasis will be put on practical knowledge development based on real-life examples. After successfully passing the course, a student will be capable of recognizing and modeling the classical end to end processes in practical life. Be it a complex process like the order to cash process or be it a smaller one like a booking authorization, either of them can be analyzed, valuated and critically discussed by the students. Further goals are the demarcation of IT and specialist departments, the understanding of business and technical roles in IT and the tasks of the economics and computing graduate in that context. Classical process management as well as questions of project management will be rounding up the portfolio. To further strengthen the theoretical knowledge, one of the already introduced products (SAP or Microsoft Dynamics) will be practically taught up to certification readiness of the students.

Subject of course

The following contents will be treated

  • process modeling and process circuits
  • process analysis and rating (benchmarking)
  • workflows and further IT tools supporting processes
  • deepening the understanding for realization and basics of ERP systems proceeding from the ERP Systems course
  • strengthening the business economics knowledge in regard to value creation and balancing
  • analysis of classical end to end process models
  • practical study of standard processes within several modules of a widespread ERP system (logistics, accounting, supply chain, production, customer relationship management)
  • practical discovery of important organizational structures and arrangement of relevant processes
  • elaboration of the value of workflows by example of supporting processes within ERP systems (reporting of generated business models)

 Didactical approach

The course is based on knowledge gained within the ERP Systems or EEBIS course taught at TU Vienna. After studying theoretical base knowledge, integrated exercises can be completed via internet connection on a live ERP system.
