Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to gain, present and discuss knowledge in selected topics of IT Security in the form of discussions, a comparative literature search and a presentation of the results.

In particular, the following aspects are relevant:

  • Create a presentation on a subject aligned to the target audience 
  • Present in front of a technical audience 
  • Give and implement feedback 

Subject of course

Research papers on selected current topics of IT security, which are especially relevant for large IT infrastructures, are researched, discussed and results are presented by the students of this course. Besides getting insights in different aspects of IT security, the students of this lecture will learn how to

  • Create a presentation on a subject aligned to the target audience 
  • Present in front of a technical audience 
  • Give and implement feedback 

Didactic approach 

The responsible research group communicates engineering and research views. For this course this means that the needed basics are communicated, research in depth is guided on-demand, real, often large, case studies are presented, proving and experience in creating concepts is imparted.

Teaching methods

Students work on seminar papers and conduct peer reviews. Afterward, the results are presented and discussed. For this, there will be 3 appointments on-site during the course of the term for presentations of interim results and the final presentation.

  • Preliminary talk and presentation of topics: 2 h
  • Literature search + writing of the paper: 50 h

  • Preparation for presentation, presentation: 10 h
