Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to

  • to formulate a relevant question or problem;
  • to conduct a systematic literature search;
  • to apply a scientifically founded, methodically comprehensible approach to problem-solving;
  • to write a Bachelor's thesis with a suitable structure and form, in scientific language and with relevant references or quotations.

Subject of course

This course deals with a current topic from the research areas of the Industrial Software Research Group. Topics from the areas are available for selection:

  • Software Engineering and Quality Assurance
  • Human-Computer Interaction and Usability Engineering
  • IT security, eHealth, electronic health records
  • e-Government, e-Voting, electronic file
  • Mobile applications and mobile society
  • Operational information systems and project management 
  • and other relevant informatics issues.

More details and topics here. The concrete scope of your bachelor thesis will be determined together and depends on the chosen topic and the complexity of the topic. For your own topic proposal, it is necessary to prepare a written project description, including the title, objectives, content, and details of the planning.

Teaching methods

  • Regular meetings with the supervisor to discuss the progress of the project
  • Development of a suitable topic including requirements analysis, design, implementation, and evaluation
  • Research of relevant literature using popular search engines and learn how to correctly cite scientific literature

Effort for the student (ECTS-Breakdown) - for example

  • Exposé writing: 10 h
  • Literature research, analysis work, State-of-the-Art: 30 h
  • Familiarization with the given development environment and with the technologies applied: 20 h
  • Practical part (implementation/ survey): 120 h 
  • Evaluation/ testing: 30 h
  • Thesis writing: 40 h
