Understanding and mastering fundamentals of digital systems

The course includes:

• Representation of numbers in computers
• Fundamentals of coding theory
• Fundamentals of information theory
• Fundamentals of Boolean algebra and minimal forms
• Moore and Mealy machines

Learning activities comprise lectures, assignments in large and small groups (which will be graded and discussed), as well as two written exams.

Lectures usually take place as follows:

• Tuesday, 9-11 (c.t.), room Informatikhörsaal
• Thursday, 9-11 (c.t.), room HS 17 Friedrich Hartmann
• Friday, 10-12 (c.t.), room HS 17 Friedrich Hartmann

Workload estimation (ECTS breakdown): 75 hours = 3 ECTS

• Lecture time (25 hours)
• Written tests (3 hours)
• Presentation of homework exercises (6 hours)
• Preperation / post-processing of homework (32 hours)
• Post-processing of lectures and preperation for exams(9 hours)

To pass the course successfully it is required to solve a certain number of homework exercises, and to get a positive assessment for the presentation of solved homework exercises during classes. In addition, a positive assessment of two written exams is required. All details about examination modalities are presented during the preliminary meeting and can be looked up in the PDF-document "Folien der Vorbesprechung" in the TUWEL-course.
