Properties

  • Semester hours: 1.0
  • Credits: 6.0
  • Type: PR Project

Aim of course

Make first steps in ones own scientific work on selected topics of computer engineering. Based upon (typically self-chosen) publications on a suitable topic in this field, a short paper shall be written and presented during the semester. In addition, the course offers an excellent opportunity to get in touch with our research projects, which could be a good starting point for a later diploma-thesis or dissertation project.

Subject of course

Students work independently on a small-sized scientific topic in computer engineering. The work comprises literature study, discussion of scientific questions, work on new solutinos in tight cooperation with the supervisor, written and oral presentation of the project results.

Project topics may be from the following areas: Embeddes systems architectures, programming methods for embedded systems, timing analysis, design/design tools for safety-critical real-time systems, fault tolerance, dependable systems, security in embedded systems, communication and network protocols for ES, etc.

Didactic concept: Following a literature survey the research topic is defined (in agreement with the supervisor). Following this students work on their research question and regularly report to their supervisor. Finally the project and its results are presented in written and oral form. The organization of this course is very similar to writing a Master/PhD thesis, albeit of much smaller size and with tighter supervision.
