In this course students get acquainted with methods of scientific work and research. To gain practical experence students do a literature search, write a scientific report, and make a presentation about a selected topic. A review is performed for the written documents, and the presentation style is analyzed in the group.
Didactic concept: The writing and presentation of a scientific paper is directly exercised by the student at the example of the assigned topic. This encompasses the literature search (including the filtering of irrelevant/non-trustworthy sources), the concise and precise written summary, the reviewing procedure, as well as the oral presentation under given time constraints. Many topics are available for group work (related subjects pertaining to a common topic), which improves the teamworking skills. For every step the advisor provides guidance, additionally there are introductory lectures on "publishing" and "oral presentation".
ECTS breakdown: 3 ECTS = 75 hours; 6 lectures, 40 literature work and paper writing, 4 reviewing, 8 preparation of presentation, 15 seminar, 2 individual supervision.
Grading is based on active cooperation, written work, and presentation.
