Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to

- properly structure and write their master thesis proposal 

- properly prepare a research presentation describing results of their master thesis. 

 

This seminar is mandatory for all other master students who complete their master studies in Logic and Computation. 

Subject of course

This seminar involves the following tasks:

  1. Submission of initial master thesis proposal. Before the submission, the student should discuss the proposal with the supervisor.
  2. Presentation and discussions of the Master thesis proposal (10 mins presentations + 15 mins discussion). Based on the received feedback, students should be able to develop a sound and coherent final proposal (Diplomarbeitsanmeldung) of their master thesis.
  3. Seminar presentation of the most important results of the Master thesis (20 min + 10 min discussion). After this presentation, using the received feedback, student should be able to prepare a convincing presentation to be eventually presented within their Master thesis defense.

The seminar will start with an introductory lecture in March, given by the lecturers on Zoom (requirements for master thesis proposal and work). 

Teaching methods

All seminar events will take place online, via Zoom.

The seminar will consist of online meetings with students and online presentations of students, presenting results of their (upcoming) master thesis. These presentations are meant to train and support students in revising their master thesis plans/proposals and talks of their master thesis defense.

  • March (21.03.2022, 12:00 - 13:00): Kick-off seminar event, general information
  • April (28.04.2022, 09:00 - 12:00): Presentation of master thesis proposals/plans - First slot (seminar responsibles: Agata Ciabattoni, Robert Ganian)
  • May (19.05.2022, 09:00 - 12:00): Presentation of master thesis proposals/plans - Second slot (seminar responsibles: Uwe Egly, Florian Zuleger)
  • June (23.06.2022, 09:00 - 12:00): Presentation of master thesis proposals/plans - Third slot (seminar responsibles: Georg Fuchsbauer, Nysret Musliu)

April - November 2022: Individual presentations of final results of master theses/trial presentations of master thesis defense, to be decided on an individual basis among the students and their supervisor(s)

Students are required to attend the kick-off seminar event in March, as well as at least two of the three seminar events focused on presenting master thesis plans/proposals (at least two events from April , May and June , 2022).

Examination modalities

For each student, the grading will be based on the presented master thesis proposal and the student seminar talk presenting results of the master thesis. 

Students need to register only to the seminar slot in which they intend to present their master thesis proposal.

Students are however expected to (online) attend at least two seminar events that host students' presentations.
