Aim of course

Introduction into problem formulation and formal modeling in environmental and population economics. Application of economic concepts and methods to nvestigate the interconnection between the economy and the environment and respectively the economy and population development.   

Subject of course

1. Interaction between population, environment and economic growth - a historical overview (demographic transition, environmental Kuznets curve)

2. macroeconomic modelling of the interaction between the economy and Environment and the economy and Population (exhaustible versus renewable resources, models with and without demographic age structure)

3. microeconomic concepts of environmental and population economics (external effects and market failure, public goods, tragedy of the commons)

4. environmental and population policies

5. sustainability of resource and population development
