Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to:

- understand the principles of process optimization for process synthesis and deisgn.

- formulate optimization problems for complicated process design tasks.

- to apply optimization methods on the basis of mathematical algorithms and software.

Subject of course

- Basic concepts for algorithmic methods and optimization in process systems engineering

- Theory and applications for linear (LP), nonlinear (NLP) and mixed-integer (MIP, MILP, MINLP) programming

- Optimization models for synthesis of heat exchanger networks

- Optimization models for synthesis of reactor networks

- Optimization models for synthesis and integration of distillation sequencing

- Optimization of process flowsheet structures (superstructures)

- Optimal design and scheduling for multiproduct batch plants

- Process flexibility analysis

Teaching methods

The contents are taught through lectures, calculation examples and processing of various tasks and questions.
