Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to understand the main methods of molecular biology and genome analysis from a theoretical point of view. This will be an important prerequisite for the application of such in laboratories, either as a student in university courses or as researcher at work.

Subject of course

- quantitative and qualitative PCR methods

- methods of sequencing

- genomics & metagenomics

- isolation, characterization and manipulation of genes (gene banks, screening  incl. special expression techniques as 1-hybrid, 2-Hybrid systems)

- methoden of inserting DNA in organisms (transformation, transfection)

- genome editing

- analysing gene expression (from transcript analyses to reporter systems) 

- methods of analysing chromatin structur and epigenetic changes 

Teaching methods

Descriptive introduction into the methods of molecular biology, gene technology and genome analyses and explanation of their application using examples.
