Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to:

  • read flow sheets and create them on the basis of a written process description;
  • use physical units correctly and derive dimensionless numbers for simple processes;
  • set up mass and molar based balance Equations for chemical engineering processes;
  • identify unit operations of process engineering and assess their application.

Subject of course

The following topics will be presented in this lecture.

  • Creation of and working with flowsheets (different types of flowsheets)
  • Balancing of chemical engineering processes
  • Introduction to the unit operations in chemical engineering
  • Dimensionless Numbers and working with diagrams
  • Modelling in chemical engineering

Teaching methods

Lectures on the individual chapters; Demonstration of demo examples; Self-contained solving of simple tasks.
