Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to:

- present the importance of the field of applied bioinformatics for the era of biotechnology and life sciences.

- explain the essential tasks and applied tools/strategies in the analysis of DNA, RNA and protein sequences.

- explain important bioinformatic databases and their architecture.

Subject of course

- Introduction to Bioinformatics.

- Bioinformatic Servers and Databases

- Statistical basics of bioinformatics.

- Tools and algorithms for finding DNA, RNA and protein sequence similarities.

- Introduction to applied bioinformatics of the genome, transcriptome, proteome and metagenome.

- Models for molecular evolution and their calculation

The focus of the lecture is on developing the theoretical knowledge for the correct application of bioinformatic tools and programs.

Additional information

The course starts on November 12, 2021. The lecture units are made available online via TUWEL in the format of the commented slides, and PDFs of the slides are also made available at the same time. All units will be online by the end of November. 

In addition, we will offer ZOOM sessions via TUWEL, where you can ask questions to the lecturers. Details will be announced in advance via TUWEL.

Seperate Registration for the TUWEL course is required to gain access to materials and Zoom-Links. TUWEL course registration will open on October 1st.
