Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to:

- present the importance of the field of applied bioinformatics for the field of biomedical engineering and life sciences.

- derive the biological and biotechnological basics for the solution of bioinformatic problems.

- explain the essential tasks and applied tools for the analysis of DNA, RNA and protein sequences.

- explain important bioinformatic databases and their architecture.

Subject of course

The lecture covers the following tasks:

- Introduction to Bioinformatics.

- Bioinformatic Servers and Databases

- Tools and algorithms for finding DNA, RNA and protein sequence similarities.

- Introduction to applied bioinformatics of the genome, transcriptome, proteome and metagenome.

- Models for molecular evolution and their calculation

The focus of the lecture is on developing the knowledge for the correct application of bioinformatic tools and programs.

Additional information

The course starts on November 26, 2021. The lecture units are made available online via TUWEL in the format of the commented slides, and PDFs of the slides are also made available at the same time. All units will be online by December 6. 

In addition, we will offer ZOOM sessions via TUWEL, where you can ask questions to the lecturers. Details will be announced in advance via TUWEL.

Seperate Registration for the TUWEL course is required to gain access to materials and Zoom-Links. TUWEL course registration will open from October 1st.
