Aim of course

Introduction into the basics of bioinformatics DNA, RNA and protein analysis via high through put techniques, interpretation of data Genome projects, EST data bases, SNP markers, DNA Chip technology, strategies Identification of organisms, molecular taxonomy Databases, construction and queries The www as source of biochemical and gene technological information

Subject of course

The lecture covers the following tasks: 1) Introduction into bioinformatics 2) Biological background of bioinformatic, introduction in major technologies, in silico analysis of genomes 3) Tools and algorithms for the identification of sequence similarities 4) Models of molecular evolution, predictions of structure and function of bio-molecules, servers and databases 5) Demonstration of data base search
