After successful completion of the course, students are able to understand the main methods of molecular biology and genome analysis from a theoretical point of view. This will be an important prerequisite for the application of such in laboratories, either as a student in university courses or as researcher at work.
- Structure and properties of the DNA and genomes of pro- and eucaryonts
- Isolation, characterisation and manipulation of genes (gene libraries, screening of gene libraries including special techniques such as the 1-hybrid and 2-hybrid system, etc.
- DNA-sequencing, enzymes for DNA modification, DNA modifying methods
- Detection of gene expression (transcript analysis, reporter systems)
- Insertion of DNA in organisms (transformation, transfection) including plants and mammals
- Genome wide analysis strategies (sequencing of genomes, DNA arrays etc.)
- DNA analytics, genome analysis and insights in selected industrial microorganisms
- Characterization of chromatin and epigenetic structures of genomes
