Aim of course

This lecture should provide a basic knowledge in the most essential fields of general biology with special respect to the study programs "Mathematics in Technology and Science" and "Biomedical Engineering".

Subject of course

Definitions of life; basic chemistry of biomolecules; cytology; bacteria - simple cells and objects of experimentation; formal genetics - laws of inheritance; genetic information - processing of genetic programms; viruses and plasmids; mutations; general principles of gene technology; reproduction strategies; developmental biology - interaction of cells; immune systems; ecology - equilibria in the biosphere; evolution - foundation of biodiversity.
