Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to deal with calculations related to the topicsdiscussed topics in an independent and sustainable manner, in order to solve both fundamental and technological problems of "physical chemistry" research.

  • 1. Fundamentals of thermodynamics: Thermodynamic equilibrium in simple systems (1 component, 1 phase): reversible/irreversible processes, cyclic processes, ideal/non-ideal systems, fundamental laws of thermodynamics and related state functions.
  • 2. Thermodynamics of systems with more than one component and more than one phase: thermodynamic equations of state, phase diagrams, ideal/real liquid and solid mixtures, miscibility gaps
  • 3. Chemical Thermodynamics : chemical equilibrium, (free) reaction enthalpy, reaction entropy.

  • 2. thermodynamics of multicomponent and multiphase systems
  • 3. chemical thermodynamics

Teaching methods

Exercises matching the recent topics of lecture and seminar will be provided to actively use the theoretical basics of physical chemistry. Exercises will be available in the TUWEL course. Regular Zoom meetings will be held for questions.
