Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to understand the principles of the quantum mechanics. They shall comprehend spectroscopy as applied quantum mechanics and shall be able to derivate thermodynamic parameter from spectroscopic data by the aid of statistical thermodynamics.

Subject of course

Franck-Hertz experiment, particle in a box, electronic transitions in polyolefins, harmonic oscillator, rigid rotator, IR and MW spectroscopy, statistical thermodynamics.

Teaching methods

Historical experiments are explained on the basis of the theory and in dependence to the laboratory course. Spectroscopic data are shown and interpreted.
