After successful completion of the course, students are able to understand chemical reactions and chemical equilibra (acid/base, redox, precipitation and complexation) and to use these for the purpose of separating and identifying cations and anions in aqueous solutions.
Introduction to the cation separation scheme and the relevant identification reactions. Identification of cations and anions based on the cation separation scheme and individual ion tests exemplified by the analysis of soluble pure compounds, and multi-component mixtures of increasing complexity.
Practical and independent work in the chemcial laboratory under supervision of assitants and tutors.
As a precautionary measure in response to the Corona pandemic, the lab course "Quaiitative Analytical Laboratory" will be held in three instances with reduced participant number (40 participants/course) in the summer semester 2022.
We reserve the right, however, to change the mode of the organization of the lab if the current situation and resulting safety measures will require to do so
Grading according to the success of the practical work, the introductory test and the overall impression based on the regular supervision.
