After successful completion of the course, students are able to understand chemical reactions and chemical equilibra (acid/base, redox, precipitation and complexation) and to use these for the purpose of separating and identifying cations and anions in aqueous solutions.
Introduction to the cation separation scheme and the relevant identification reactions. Identification of cations and anions based on the cation separation scheme and individual ion tests exemplified by the analysis of soluble pure compounds, and multi-component mixtures of increasing complexity.
Practical and independent work in the chemcial laboratory under supervision of assitants and tutors.
As a reaction to the precautionary measures against the Corona pandemic, the lab course "Quantitative Analytical Laboratory" (164.249) is held in up to three instances in the winter semester, thus leaving no possibility to also have the "Qualitative Analytical Laboratory" (164.339) during the winter semester 2020/21.
This lab course has thus to be cancelled for the winter semster 2020/21 and will be held the next time in the summer semester 2021, most likely starting with April.
Grading according to the success of the practical work, the introductory test and the overall impression based on the regular supervision.
