After successful completion of the course, students are able to understand chemical reactions and chemical equilibra (acid/base, redox, precipitation and complexation) and to use these for the purpose of separating and identifying cations and anions in aqueous solutions.
Introduction to the cation separation scheme and the relevant identification reactions. Identification of cations and anions based on the cation separation scheme and individual ion tests exemplified by the analysis of soluble pure compounds, and multi-component mixtures of increasing complexity.
For students starting in the summer semester or those that did not enter or have failed the lab in an earlier attempt, there is an additional course in the winter semester: Assignment of lab place and introduction: Tue, 07.01.2020, 12:30 pm (in the students' laboratory, BB05 C17, participation compulsory !)
Introductory test: Wed., 08.01.2020, 11:30-12:00 h, "Radinger HS / GM 2". The test will require knowledge about the H2S separation scheme and the individual confirmatory reactions for cations and anions.
Working time: 08.01. - 28.01.2020 on Tue-Fri, 12-17:30 h.
Return of lab place: Wed 29.01.2020.
Registration for the lab course (after fulfilling the admission conditions) will remain open until 14.12.2019.
A deposit of EUR 50 has to be made for the working place. The deposit can be paid in cash directly to tthe secretary of the Analytical Division of the Institute of Chemical Technologies and Analytics, Mrs. Maschler, who can be found in office BB05 H25 on Tuesday, 07.01.2020 between 8-12 am. The receipt of payment is required for taking over the working place in the lab.
The student must have at least 1 of the course(s) completed listed below:
The positive exam on the lecture course "Analytical Chemistry I" (164.053) is compulsory to be admitted to this lab course.
Good command of the German language is required since the course instructions are written in German and no translation is provided.
