Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to decide which of the proposed methods is the best-suited for solving a particular analytical problem. Moreover, students will be able to select specific NMR techniques in order to solve more complex problems of structure elucidation.

Subject of course

Discussion of the theoretical basis and the practical application of analytical techniques suitable for solving moleclar chemical problems (that is mainly their application to small molecules, or to molecules in solution).

Separation techniques: Problem-oriented strategies for the characterisation of complex samples; methods for sample preparation (enrichment, matrix isolation, extraction, derivatisation, clean-up) as well as the use of hyphenated techniques (GC-MS, GC-AED, GCIR, LC-MS, LC-NM R etc.). Multidimensional chromatography.

NMR Spectroscopy: application of pulse FT-NMR techniques: application of multipulse 1D methods, basic 2D NMR spectroscopy, heteronuclear NMR.

Teaching methods

In both parts of the lecture course the course topics are presented in the form of a frontal lecture, where discussions with the course participants are strongly encouraged.
