Critical assessment of all steps during teh design process of parts, starting from selection of a suitable production process, thru the selection of a boundary conditions of a material, that are necessary to manufacture a part. Material specifications, economic and technical aspects, costs, life-cycle-costs, availability of materials and aco-design requirements are incorporated in the assessement and selection of materials and their technoloical production processes. All classes of materials like metals, ceramics, polymers and bio-materials are considered. Practical experience should be accumulated by means of case studies.
