Properties

  • Semester hours: 4.0
  • Credits: 4.0
  • Type: LU Laboratory Exercise
  • Format: Presence

Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to apply different wet chemical analysis principles (gravimetric and volumetric analyses) and perform simple spectroscopic measurements (F-OES and F-AAS, UV-VIS Spectroscopy, Fluorescence Spectroscopy).

Subject of course

Quantitative analyses and statistical data evaluation of different samples using wet chemical analysis principles: Gravimetry: quantitative analysis of Nickel and Iron by precipitation analysis, Volumetric analyses: Acid/base titration: Kjehldal analysis, Oxidimetry: quantitative analysis of percarbonate content in a detergent, complexometric titration: quantitative analysis of Ca and Mg in a mineral water, Flame-Optical-Emission-Spectroscopy and Flame-Atomic-Absorption-Spectroscopy: quantitative analysis of Potassium in a fertilizer, UV-VIS Spectroscopy: quantitative Protein-Analysis

Teaching methods

Practical exercises in the field of quantitative wet chemical analysis including a discussion of exercise content prior to practical work. Preparation of a report for each exercise.

Mode of examination

Immanent

Additional information

The laboratory courses will be held in the winter semester 2024/25 in two runs with a maximum of 45 participants per course. On the last Friday before the start of the practical work course instructions are given during which the attendance is compulsory, and an introductory test has to be conducted. The inventory of the laboratory place has to be taken over on Tuesday before the first working day.

1st Course: Introduction and Test: Friday, 11.10.2024 (Participation compulsory!), takeover of laboratory place: Tuesday, 15.10.2024. The working time for the laboratory is 12:30 - 17:30 during Wednesday, 16.10. - Wednesday, 06.11.2024 in the students' laboratory 5th floor. Return of the laboratory place is on Thursday 07.11.2023

2nd Course: Introduction and Test: Friday, 08.11.2024 (Participation compulsory!), takeover of laboratory place: Tuesday, 12.11.2023. The working time for the laboratory is 12:30 - 17:30 during Wednesday, 13.11. - Wednesday, 04.12.2024 in the students' laboratory 5th floor. Return of the laboratory place is on Thursday 05.12.2024
