This course is in at least 1 assigned curriculum part of the STEOP.

2018S, VU, 2.0h, 3.0EC

Properties

  • Semester hours: 2.0
  • Credits: 3.0
  • Type: VU Lecture and Exercise

Aim of course

Introduction into the mass spectrometric concepts and instrumentation applied in the biomedical field as well as application of these techniques in medicine.

Subject of course

Principles and mechanisms of the gaseous phase ionization techniques and desorption/ionization techniques (desorption Electrospray Ionization (DESI), vacuum matrix Assisted LDI (vMALDI, ESI and nano ESI); principles and efficiencies of "high end" mass-spectrometric analyzers: Linear and reflectron time-of-flight analyser, quadrupoles, 2D and 3D ion traps inclusive orbitrap; Tandem and multi-stage mass spectrometer for collision-induced dissociation; Imaging and profiling mass spectrometry; Application of the methods on qualitative (structure-referred) and quantitative questions from the medicine and medical pharmacology/toxicology.

Additional information

The coordination meeting will take place on Thursday, 15th March 2018 at 5 pm in the semiar room SEM BA 02A and the practical part will be fixed during this meeting.

Lectures every Thursday from 5:00 to 6:30 pm. Location: S

Practical part: Details will be given by E. Pittenauer (registration via Ernst Pittenauer (via e-mail) is required due to limited space)
