Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to calculate quantitative aspects of analytical chemistry, leading to a better understanding of the subject matter. In more detail, they will be able to calculate acid/base-, precipitation-, redox- and complelcing equilibra and to judge on their applicablity for analytical determinations.

Subject of course

Supporting and more detailed calculation examples for the lecture courses "Fundamentals of Chemistry" and "Analytical Chemistry I" which should serve as preparation for the accompanying laboratory courses. Possibility for the discussion and repetition of the content of the releant courses.

Teaching methods

In the frame of this course, caluclations stemming from the different topics are interactively performed by the lecturers on the blackboard and are discussed with the audience.

Mode of examination





Examination modalities

Grading will be done for students of the study programmes 'Bachelor intechnical Chemsitry', 'Bachelor in Chemical Egineering' or of comparable study programmes on the basis of regular attendance and active participation in the discussions. For the evaluation "Participated with success", it is necessary to attend >=80% of the course units (to be demonstarted by signature in the participation list).

For students of other study programmes, the course organizers reserve the right of issuing the certificate on 'successful participation' only upon passing a colloquium during which the student has to demonstrate to have acquired the skills and knowledge conveyed in this course.
