After successful completion of the course, students are able to comprehend the subtle differences required for the synthesis of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). Concomitantly, the reasons for the required differences between laboratory synthesis and production scale synthesis will be known. Besides the syntheses of APIs, also the requirements for syntheses towards organic materials will be known.
Principles of medicinal chemistry, asymmetric synthesis of pharmaceutical compounds, synthesis of organic materials (e.g. organic light emmitting diodes), process chemistry in the pharmaceutical industry, mechanistic studies of organic reactions, DFT calculations to support mechanistic studies.
