Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to:

  • name the basic safety aspects for working in a chemical laboratory;
  • identify possible sources of danger in a laboratory and to take the necessary safety precautions;
  • list the basic work steps and the basic components for working in a chemical laboratory

Subject of course

Introduction into the theoretical background and the safety aspects of working in a chemical Laboratory as well as guidance for the following procedures in the fundamental chemistry lab.

Teaching methods

Teaching content through case studies and PowerPoint presentations.

Das PS umfasst folgende Teile:

Einführung in die Labortechnik, Einführung in allgemeine Verhaltensweisen, Sicherheitsaspekte im Labor beim experimentellen chemischen Arbeiten und wird als Block-LVA im Jänner (via Zoom) durchgeführt. Zusätzlich muss noch eine Feuerlöschübung absolviert werden.   

   Mo 17:00 - 19:00,  11., 18. und 25.01.2021, via Zoom

   Mi 14:00 - 16:00,  13. und 20.01.2021,  via Zoom 

Minimumanwesenheit ist 80%. Es findet 1 schriftliches Kolloquium über den Stoff der Block-LVA statt (Do 28.01.2021, 10:00-11:30, via Zoom - Anmeldung via TISS). 

Bei nicht positiver Absolvierung gibt es zwei Nachtragskolloquien (Mo 15.02 2020, 17:00-18:30 und 15.3 2021, 17:00-18:30, via Zoom).

Verpflichtende Teilnahme an der UE "163.185 Feuerlöschübung". Termine hierfür sind dort zu entnehmen.

Examination modalities

Minimum presence: 80%

1 colloquia, lasting 60 minutes and consisting of 10 tasks. These tasks consist of:
• 10 questions randomly distributed over the subject areas of the seminar

A total of 100 points are awarded for a colloquium; 100-89 points correspond to a “very good”, 88-76 points to a “good”, 75-62 points to a “satisfactory”, 62-50 points to a “sufficient” and less than 50 points to a “not sufficient”.

Fire extinguishing must be completed
