After successful completion of the course, students are able to differentiate various rapid prototyping technologies and obtain a comprehensive understanding of microfluidic applications. Initially main microfluidic fabrication technologies will be discussed including soft lithography, hot embossing and injection molding. Additionally principles of microfluidics and practical applications will be discussed in the lecture. An overview on microfluidic components including micropumps, mixers, degassers and sensory systems for lab on a chip systems will be provided. Finally various fields of application of lab on a chip systems will be discussed.
Common materials and methods in chip fabrication and polymer replication techniques ranging from rapid prototyping to medium and arge scale industrial biochip production using casting, hot embossing and injection molding technologies. Integration and coupling to analytical methods for process control, QM and diagnostics
Lecture supported by digital presentations; discussion of case studies
