After successful completion of the course, students are able to comply with basic rules of conduct in chemical laboratories and perform easy manipulations. Therefore, students have reassured themselves having chosen the appropriate study.
To give a rough overview of the band-width of the bachelor study "Technische Chemie" the students will attend 1 full day (8 hours per day) lab exercises in hands-on experimental work under intense supervision of tutors and assistants. The exercises comprise of 2 of the 4 experiments in synthetic chemistry, analytical chemistry, physical chemistry and biochemistry. Furthermore, there will be offered an informative lecture covering the job description of a trained chemist by Assoc.-Univ. Prof. Rudroff..
ATTENTION: This course starts on time (s.t.) on 2.10. at 10:00 a.m. in the Radinger lecture hall, Getreidemarkt 9. Before the lecture you need to pass by at the CheckIn-Counter, located near the "Plus-Energie-Bürohochhaus", to get your name-badge - we will start at 9:00 a.m.
Participation at the practical exercises on 3th and 4th October 2023 is exclusively reserved for participants of the E-Chem-Test! Students who are already enrolled/registered but who have not gone through the pre-study phase must need to attend the first EChemTest (the date will be announced at the information event in the Radinger lecture hall at 10:00 a.m.). A separate registration for the EChemTest is NOT REQUIRED in this case.
The 4 topics of the lab course of the will cover the following exercises: 1) synthetic chemistry (synthesis of an azo-dye, performance of a polyamide condensation, esterification) 2) analytical chemistry (characterisation of wine: titration of the total acid content, photometric measurement of the tartaric acid content, thin-layer-chromatography of wine dyes, atomic absorption spectroscopy of the copper content of wine) 3) physical chemistry (determination of the osmotic pressure of sacharose solutions) 4) biochemistry (DNA isolation from E. coli cells and an introduction into methods of bioengineering)
Please check your personal electronic record card and register which group you plan to to attend. On this record card you can find the needed information when you have to attend which laboratory course and if we have confirmed your attendance.
Confirmation of participation in the course examination comprises of personal participation at the E-ChemTest before the orientation course, active class participation and hands-on experimental work on 3. and 4. October 2023 as well as attendance at the lectures given on 2. October 2022. The certificate will be issued only after participation at a second run of the E-ChemTest at the end of the following summer term.
The practical exercises take place on 3.10. from 09:00 - 13:00 and 14:00-18:00 and on 4.10. from 09:00 - 13:00 and 14:00 - 18:00. The exercises on both days will take place in the following listening laboratories: Module Synthetic Chemistry: student lab BK U1, Module Physical Chemistry: student lab BC 04 H31, Module Analytical Chemistry: student lab BB 05 C01 and C17, Module Biochemistry: student lab BC O4 H01/H11. For the practical exercises on 3. October and 4. October 2022 in the labs, the following items must be brought along: 1) a white lab coat (mandatory) 2) paper tissue, dish washing detergent, waterproof ink writer, lighter (highly recommended), ruler; disposable latex gloves.
A calculator and ruler are required for the physical chemistry exercises! The experiment is presented in a video - you must watch this video BEFORE carrying out the experiment (link via your electronic file card). Please also bring the experiment instructions with you to the lab course (required for the evaluation).
