Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to describe chemistry of major biomolecules like nucleic acids, proteins, carbohydrates and lipids, to explain chirality and kinetics, to categorise protein structure, RNA- and DNA-structure and to describe structure-activity-relation of proteins, DNA and glycanes. Students can present structure and function of enzymes and delineate principles of enzyme catalysis and metabolism.

Subject of course

Structure of water, chirality, introduction to kinetics, chemistry of major biomolecule classes: nucleic acids, proteins, carbohydrates and lipids; protein structure, RNA- and DNA-structure; structure-function relation of proteins, DNA and glycanes; enzymes and enzyme catalysis; introduction to basics and general principles of metabolism.
