After successful completion of the course, students are able to explain the fundamentals of important methods to characteriza polymers and polymeric materials and to solve non-method-specific analytical questions.
Molar weight determination: viscometry, end group analysis, osmometry, chromatography and electrophoresis, light scattering, ultracentrifugation, MALDI/ESI mass spectrometry Structure: IR spectroscopy, NMR spectroscopy, tandem/multi stage mass spectrometry (examples), SAXS, electron microscopy Surface analysis: AFM, XPS, SIMS Thermal analysis: DSC, TGA, TMA Mechanical properties: stress-strain behaviour (modules), hardness, impact strength Rheology Resistance to weathering and oxidation
