Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to describe the structure and properties of standard plastics, to list their typical applications as engineering plastics, films, fibers and coatings, to explain polymer processing methods, to analyse polymer composite materials as well as to identify the most important polymer additives.

Subject of course

Structure and properties of industrial important thermoplastic polymers, crosslinked polymers and elastomers with respect to their applications as engineering plastics, films, fibres and coatings. Selected high performance polymers. Formulation of plastics(polymer additives), Polymer processing methods (extrusion, injection molding etc.) polymer composite materials. Testing of polymers (mechanical, thermal, electrical properties), use of polymers in various industrial fields such as mechanical engineering, construction technique, automotives, electrotechnology, electronics, medical science, coating technology etc.

Theory and practical examples of chemical and technological aspects of standard plastics, their processing and common plastic additives
