After successful completion of the course, students are able to understand basic properties and reactions of coordination-chemical compounds, especially of transition-metal ions. If students require the lecture can be given in English.
Substantial bases of group theory (irreducible representations, etc.), crystal field and ligand field theory to understand optical spectra and magnetic characteristics of coordination compounds, solvent effects and solvent co-ordination to metal ions, the extended Lewis acid-base concept, Jahn Teller effects, deeper insight into hard and soft acid and bases concept, as well as redox reactions including variation of electro-chemical and chemical potential by variation of ligands and solvents are given. The Franc Condon barrier. Understanding and interpretation of magnetic characteristics of transition metal compounds spin Crossover complexes, molecular magnets. The appropriate theoretical bases to understand these properties (Tanabe Sugano diagrams, magnetic characteristics, optically and thermally adjustable spin transition behaviour, etc..) are discussed at suitable place in the lecture.
In der Lehrveranstaltunge wird aktive Mitarbeit der Studenten zur Erarbeitung des Stoffes verlangt.
