Aim of course

Development of basic skills in the synthesis of organic materials.

Subject of course

Module 1: Polymers (3 ECTS) Synthesis and structure of polymers prepared by polymerization, polycondensation and polyaddition. A special focus is given to radical and ionic initiation and polymerization. Polymerization processes in bulk, solution, emulsion and suspension are discussed. Chemistry of important bulk polymers and engineering plastics, composit materials and biomedical polymers. Synthesis of copolymers and graft-copolymers, polymer modification and standard techniques of polymer processing. Identical with VO Polymer Chemistry in Master Material Chemistry Module 2: Low molecular organic materials (0.5 ECTS) Liquid crystalline compounds, functional dyes, materials for information processing, data storage and reproduction techniques.
