Properties

  • Semester hours: 2.0
  • Credits: 3.0
  • Type: VO Lecture

Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to:

  • perform a balance-based and detailed design of column apparatuses für various applications in separations engineering (e.g. rectification, absorption, extraction);
  • develop and apply an in-depth knowledge about the complex fluiddynamic phenomena in mass transfer devices / phase contact devices;
  • decide about preferential equipment for sepration processes - both for classical column-based separation processes as well as adsorption processes, membrane processes and evaporation processes;
  • perform process optimization in separations engineering for selected applications.

Subject of course

Calculation methodes for the basic engineering of separation column internals and fluidynamic behaviour for distillation/rectification and extraction will be discussed. Simulation methodes, process optimisation and spezific costs will be given.

Teaching methods

Working through the slide set; calculation of application examples together with the participating students; providing re-caps at the beginning and the end of each lecture unit;
