This course is in at least 1 assigned curriculum part of the STEOP.

2022S, VO, 2.0h, 3.0EC, to be held in blocked form

Properties

  • Semester hours: 2.0
  • Credits: 3.0
  • Type: VO Lecture
  • Format: Presence

Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to...explain the physical basics of nuclear magnetic resonance and to classify the various applications of MR-imaging with respect to their actual relevance for medical diagnostics. At the same time they will be able to keep themselves informed about the latest developments of this currently booming field of research and eventually may become actively engaged in it.

Subject of course

1) Basic Principles of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance 2) MR-Imaging

Teaching methods

Since the goal of this course to give an introduction to a field fo research that very likely will be new to most of the students, the underlying theoretical formalism of nuclear magnetic resonance will merely be treated as far as it is essential for the understanding of the various techniques of MR-imaging. In contrast to numerous graphical illustrations, mathematical equations will be used as rarely as possible.

Examination modalities

At the begin of each successive lecture the students are admonished at random to briefly summarize what has been learnt so far. This approach has proven to be quite beneficial as it enabled many of the students to pass the final written examination successfully shortly after this block course was finished.
