Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to explain the basics of energy supply, the most important technologies and their impac t on the environment thus enabling them to give a first coarse estimation of corresponding facilities with regard to efficiency, ressources, involved technology and impact on the environment.

Subject of course

1. Introduction (Energy supply today in a worldwide perspective, Basic quantities) 2. Technologies (Physics basis, fossil fuels, renewable energy sources, nuclear power, storage) 3. Resources (fossil fuels, fissile fuels) 4. Impact (greenhouse effect, environmental aspects, safety aspects, nuclear waste) 5. Perspectives (hydrogen technologies, nuclear fusion technology, Generation IV, transmutation and alternative nuclear technologies)
