Aim of course

Provide an overview over concepts of complex systems; prepare students methodically for Complex Systems II - Applications. The course aims at providing students with a comprehensive tool set that enables them to develop, model and analyze questions at the cutting edge of complex systems research.

Subject of course

Introduction to mathematical foundations of the theory of complex adaptive systems; the course will be illustrated with the classical applications in complex systems. The basic concepts of various topics indispensible in complex systems research get discussed, comprising elements of probability theory, and random process, network theory, statistical mechanics and information theory, scaling, and evolutionary processes.
