Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to apply quantities and units based on the Internationl System of Units (SI), to qualify and calculate measurement uncertainties and to operate metrological standardardisation methods.

Subject of course

Introduction to the science of measurement, history of metrology, quantiteis and units, the international system of units, representation methods of units, global, European and national metrological infrastructure, measurement uncertainties, international metrological cooperation, research programms and standards, quality management and accreditiaon, legal metrology, selected examples of metrological practice   

Teaching methods

Lecture, discussion and operation of laboratory exercises at the metrological standards of the Federal Office of Metrology and Surveying (BEV)
