Aim of course

Understanding the interaction of light and matter on a quantum mechanical level.

Subject of course

Topics:

(1) semiclassical description of light-atom interaction, optical Bloch equations; (2) quantization of the elektromagnetic field; (3) quantized light-atom interaction: Jaynes-Cummings model; (4) "dressed states"-picture, (5) quantum Rabi oscillations; (6) cavity quantum electrodynamics experiments; (7) Wigner-Weisskopf-Theory of spontaneous emission; (8) resonance fluorescence, Mollow-triplet; (9) three-level-system: EIT, STIRAP; slow and stopped light
